The Ghorepani loop is the classic first Himalayan trek. It climbs through villages, stone stairways and old rhododendron forest to Poon Hill, where the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges come up pink at sunrise.
Ghandruk is the loop’s natural resting place. Many walkers arrive here on the last day. Others begin here and walk it the other way round. Either way, we keep your spare luggage safe and have the water hot.

A typical way to walk it. Your guide will adjust the days to your pace and the weather.
- Day 1: Nayapul to the stone stepsCross the Modi Khola and climb through Tikhedhunga toward Ulleri and its long stairway.
- Day 2: To GhorepaniForest, rhododendron and tea stops, ending in a village built for trekkers.
- Day 3: Poon Hill at dawnStart in the dark for the sunrise, then walk on through the forest to Tadapani.
- Day 4: Tadapani to GhandrukCome down through the trees into Ghandruk and a room with a view.
- Day 5: Ghandruk to NayapulA gentle descent to the road, with a jeep waiting if you want one.
Before you set out.
Spring, from March to May, brings the rhododendron blooms. Autumn, from October to November, gives the clearest skies. Winter mornings on Poon Hill are very cold.
